Dr. Shormann does not recommend using the course that way. One of the main reasons is because each concept is practiced over multiple lessons. If a student is stuck on a problem and has to wait several days to learn how to do it, they miss several opportunities to practice that concept which makes it harder to build long-term retention. Even worse, if the next lesson builds on that concept they don't understand, it will be very difficult to learn the new lesson.
Instead, the student should answer all the questions they can, submit the assignment, and correct missed problems by watching the video solutions and solving each missed problem correctly on paper. Dr. Shormann believes this method is critical to building long-term retention and fluency. It's also faster and easier for the student.
After watching the video solutions, most students understand the concept. If they still need help after watching the video solutions, then you can help them or have them email Dr. Shormann. Please see the detailed steps on the Practice Set Instructions, linked above every Practice Set.
If you are concerned about their grades, the practice sets are just "practice". These lessons are only worth 30% of the final grade. The quizzes and exams are worth 70%, so these practice sets are designed to help them work through the problems using various steps so they may do their best on the quizzes and exams. However, at the end of the course you can add extra credit for the corrections or you can request a grade change.
After each lesson, parents should follow these steps to ensure the student is completing the assignments correctly: How to Check Student Work
I hope you will at least try this method for a couple of weeks. Dr. Shormann developed this system based on over 25 years of teaching math. It is the fastest, easiest way to build long-term retention and fluency.
