WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?
Low grades are usually caused by not following the course instructions which causes the student to develop gaps, making math harder and slower. Please see: Time Saving Tips for Success
HOW TO QUICKLY FILL THE GAPS
Parent Instructions
-
Print the Instruction Sheets linked on the Course Home page under Parent Setup.
- Please supervise your student during these steps to ensure they understand and follow the steps correctly.
Student Instructions
-
Login and select the course title.
-
Open the "Grades" tab at the top of the page.
-
If there are any skipped assignments (no grade or 0 in the grade book), complete the lecture and practice set for that lesson. Repeat for all skipped assignments.
-
Find the first Practice Set that is 10-15 lessons back. For example, if the last Practice Set completed was 24, go back to Lesson 14 Practice Set.
-
Click the name of the assignment in the far left column.
-
Scroll down to the very bottom of the page.
-
Under the image titled "Attempt 1", click "Review".
If you don't see Attempt 1 or Review, click the blue button, complete the assignment, then go to the next step.
-
If you haven't already, print and follow ALL the steps here: Relearn Missed Problems.
-
Repeat these steps for each Practice Set until all of the last 10 Practice Sets are completed.
-
After completing these steps for the last 10 Practice Sets, continue the course normally. If your student continues to score below 75 on several Practice Sets in a row or close together, see: Phase 2 Remediation Plan

Parent Weekly Spot Check
Once you are sure the student understands and follows the steps for completing assignments, you can briefly check their work each week right before they study for the quiz.
-
Briefly compare their lecture notes to the Textbook pages for this lesson (linked under the Lecture) to ensure they solved each example problem on paper. Also, make sure they do not take too many notes. For details, see: Instructions for Lecture Notes.
-
Briefly compare their practice set notes to the PDF Solutions (linked at the top of the Results page) to ensure they solved problems on paper before entering their answer and that they are not guessing.
-
Briefly compare their corrections to the Results page and the PDF Solutions (linked at the top of the Results page) to ensure that for each question they earned less than 1 point, they watched the video solution and solved them correctly on paper or contacted Dr. Shormann.
-
If there are any problems they earned less than 1 point, but did not watch the video solutions and solve on paper, have them do that now, before studying for the quiz. This will negatively affect their quiz grade.
-
Have the student study for the quiz using the “Quiz Study Instructions”.
- Briefly check their quiz study notes to ensure they followed the “Study Instructions”.
-
Have them take the Quiz (10- 20 minutes).
-
After the Quiz:
-
Make sure they follow all the steps under “Corrections” on the “Instructions for Quizzes”.
-
Briefly check their corrections to ensure they solved missed problems on paper as instructed under “Corrections” on the “Instructions for Quizzes”.
-
Make sure they follow all the steps under “Corrections” on the “Instructions for Quizzes”.
