We separate Calculus into Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 because that is how most colleges structure the courses, and it also aligns with AP exams: Calculus AB covers Calculus 1, while Calculus BC includes Calculus 2 content.
CLEP Calculus covers Calculus 1 only.
Shormann Calculus 1 is designed as a two-semester course and can prepare students for either CLEP or AP Calculus AB. For AP, we recommend planning ahead since the exam is given in early May and students should allow about three weeks for review.
Shormann Calculus 2 is designed for AP Calculus BC preparation, since there is no CLEP equivalent. It is structured as a 1.5-semester course so students who begin around September have time to finish and review before the AP exam.
This approach also offers significant savings compared with taking Calculus I and II at a university, where each course can cost thousands of dollars. Even if a student does not earn college credit through AP, they will be much better prepared to succeed in college calculus.
