• SAXON 8/7, 2ND OR 3RD EDITION:

1. Did the student earn 80% + on Saxon Weekly Tests (last 5 tests)?

2. Did the student complete the Facts Practice Drills (5-7 minutes each)?

Yes: Ready for  Algebra 1 with Integrated Geometry

• SAXON ALGEBRA 1/2, 2nd or 3rd Edition:

Did the student earn 80% + on Weekly Tests (mainly last 5 tests)?

Yes:  Ready for Algebra 1 with Integrated Geometry. Do the 10 5 minute Fraction, Decimal, Percent drills posted on the Shormann Algebra 1 Course Home page (after purchase). These can be done before or along with the first 25 lessons of the Algebra 1 course.

No: If the student scored below 80%, complete these Math 8/7 Facts Drills, then take the Algebra 1 Placement Test. If the student passes this test, they are ready for Algebra 1. If not, follow the instructions for studying, grading, and correcting tests on the DIVE Algebra ½  Teacher Guide. Repeat the last 5 tests in Algebra ½. If the student earns 80% or higher, start Algebra 1 with Integrated Geometry   If not, contact us for a remediation plan.

• COMPLETED OTHER PUBLISHER (Not Saxon) PRE-ALGEBRA

Completed Pre-Algebra with 80% or Higher

These students are ready for Shormann Interactive Algebra 1 with Integrated Geometry. However, to ensure fluency in the fraction, decimal, percent, and conversion skills required to succeed in Algebra 1, follow the instructions on the Shormann Algebra 1 course home page and complete the 10 five minute  Fractions, Decimals, and Percent Drills posted there**. These drills are critical to learning Algebra 1, especially for Teaching Textbooks students.**

Student Earned 70-80% in Pre-Algebra (Not Saxon).

Complete the Fractions, Decimals, and Percent Drills then re-take the last test in the pre-algebra course or the  Placement Test for Saxon Algebra 1 here. If the student can bring their grade up to 80% or pass the placement test, they are ready for Shormann Algebra 1. If not, or the student is unable to complete the drills, take Shormann Pre-Algebra. This is a pre-algebra course that provides excellent preparation for Algebra 1.

Student Failed Pre-Algebra (not Saxon)

• I don’t think my student needs to take Pre-Algebra. Is there a placement test?

We only recommend this placement test when trying to skip pre-algebra. If you think your student is ready for Algebra 1 without taking pre-algebra, use the Placement Test for Saxon Algebra 1  If your student doesn’t pass, have them take Shormann Pre-Algebra self-paced eLearning course.
