RELUCTANT OR STRUGGLING MATH STUDENTS
-
OPTION 1: Re-take pre-algebra with Shormann Pre-Algebra
This option is recommended because it allows the student extra time to build fluency and auto-recall, which makes learning math faster and easier! Shormann Pre-Algebra is an honors level course that provides better preparation for Algebra 1 than most other pre-algebra courses. A placement test is not recommended*.
-
OPTION 2: If your student is in 8th grade or higher and has successfully completed a formal pre-algebra course* (see List), they can take Shormann Algebra 1 with Integrated Geometry. However, they must use the Timed Method to allow them to learn at their own pace. It may take more than one school year to complete the course. Please see: 3 Semester Schedule. A placement test is not recommended*. If there are any gaps, they can be learned in the review lessons in Shormann Algebra 1.
AVERAGE, STRONG & GIFTED MATH STUDENTS
If your student successfully completed a formal pre-algebra course* (see List ), Dr. Shormann recommends taking Shormann Algebra 1 with Integrated Geometry. A placement test is not recommended*. If there are any gaps in the Pre-Algebra curriculum used, they will learn these concepts in the review lessons in Shormann Algebra 1.
*The first 25 lessons of each Shormann Math course includes review of the prerequisite concepts needed for success in the course. Therefore, placement tests often places students lower than necessary.
