Regardless of what curriculum was used or what grade the student made in 4th grade, we recommend the following*:
-
Option 1: Take DIVE Video Lessons + Saxon 5/4 (Fourth Grade)
We normally recommend that these students move down one grade level to allow them to build fluency which makes learning math faster and easier. Use the Timed Method to allow your student to learn at their own pace. No placement test needed.
-
Option 2: Saxon 6/5 + DIVE Video Lessons (Fifth Grade Math)
If you use the Timed Method to allow your student to learn at their own pace, they can stay on grade level. However, it may take more than one school year to complete the course. No placement test needed.
*Saxon Math placement in K-7 is developmental, not skill based. The first 30 lessons have all the review needed to prepare the student for the remaining lessons. However, it is critical that you use the The Timed Method: Frustration Free Math
