Regardless of what curriculum was used or what grade the student made in 5th grade, we recommend the following*:
-
Option 1: Saxon 6/5 + DIVE Video Lessons (Fifth Grade Math)
We recommend going down one grade level and using the Timed Method. This allows reluctant math students to build fluency and learn at their own pace, which makes learning math faster and easier. No placement test needed.
-
Option 2: Take Saxon 7/6 + DIVE Video Lessons (6th Grade)
If you use the Timed Method to allow your student to learn at their own pace, they can stay on grade level. However, it may take more than one school year to complete the course. No placement test needed.
*Saxon Math placement in K-7 is developmental, not skill based. The first 30 lessons have all the review needed to prepare the student for the remaining lessons. However, it is critical that you use the The Timed Method: Frustration Free Math
